Every rating on this site comes from hands-on testing. We don’t write reviews by reading a site’s marketing page and repackaging the claims. We sign up, put money in, play, and try to get our money back out. Then we write about what actually happened.
This page explains exactly what we test, how we score it, and what our ratings mean. If you want to know why PlayOJO scored 4.1 while Mecca scored 4.3 despite PlayOJO’s zero-wagering bonuses, this is where you’ll find the answer.
What We Evaluate
We score every site across six categories. Each carries a different weight based on how much it affects your experience as a player.
| Category | Weight | What We’re Looking For |
|---|---|---|
| Licensing & Safety | 25% | Valid UKGC licence, operator track record, regulatory actions, complaint history |
| Games & Software | 20% | Bingo variants, room count, slot library size, software providers, unique features |
| Bonuses & Promotions | 15% | True bonus value after wagering, ongoing offers, loyalty rewards, transparency of terms |
| Banking & Payments | 15% | Withdrawal speed (tested), payment method range, fees, minimum amounts, verification process |
| User Experience | 15% | Site design, mobile performance, navigation, load times, stability during peak hours |
| Customer Support | 10% | Response time (tested), helpfulness, contact methods, availability hours |
Licensing carries the most weight because nothing else matters if a site isn’t safe. For UK sites, a valid UK Gambling Commission licence is non-negotiable — without one, the site doesn’t get rated. For US and offshore sites, we evaluate the licensing jurisdiction, operator reputation, and regulatory track record, since the US market operates under different frameworks.
How We Actually Test
This is the part most review sites skip. It’s easy to say “we test sites” — here’s what that looks like in practice.
Real Accounts, Real Money
Every reviewed site gets a real account created with a real payment method — a UK debit card for British sites, cryptocurrency or prepaid cards for US offshore sites where standard banking is restricted. We deposit between £10 and £50 (or the dollar equivalent) depending on the minimum deposit and bonus structure. We play through the bonus requirements where applicable, then withdraw using every available payment method.
This isn’t theoretical. When we say Mecca Bingo clears PayPal withdrawals in 15 minutes, that’s because we timed it from clicking “withdraw” to funds appearing in a PayPal account. When we say PlayOJO processes e-wallet cashouts within a few hours, that’s because we sat and waited for it to land.
Withdrawal Speed Testing
We test withdrawals at each site using every method they offer. For each withdrawal, we record the exact time from request submission to funds landing in the destination account. We test during peak hours (weekday evenings, 7–10pm, when bingo traffic is highest) and off-peak to check whether processing times vary under load.
Where the results differ, we report the slower figure. There’s no point telling you a site clears PayPal in 10 minutes if that only happens at 3am on a Tuesday. For the full breakdown, see our fast withdrawal bingo sites page, which ranks every site by tested payout speed.
Bonus Evaluation
We don’t just list the headline number. A “£60 bonus” means nothing without context. We calculate the true value after wagering requirements, check which payment methods qualify (PayPal deposits are excluded from welcome bonuses at Mecca, Kitty, Heart, and Lucky Pants), verify expiry windows, and note maximum win caps.
PlayOJO’s zero-wagering model means every penny you win is yours to keep. Compare that to Mecca’s welcome offer, where a £60 bonus comes with wagering requirements and PayPal deposits don’t qualify. These aren’t equivalent offers, and our scoring reflects that. For a detailed explanation of how wagering affects your winnings, see our wagering requirements guide.
Customer Support Testing
We contact support at every site with a genuine question — usually about withdrawal timeframes, bonus terms, or account verification. We test live chat during both daytime and evening hours, and email at least once. We record response time and whether the answer actually resolved the question.
Betfred‘s 24/7 live chat typically responds within two minutes with knowledgeable answers. Heart Bingo‘s phone support during working hours is helpful but limited in availability. We note these differences because they affect your experience when something goes wrong.
Mobile and Device Testing
We test every site on at least two devices: an iPhone running the latest iOS and an Android phone running a recent version. We check the dedicated app (where one exists) and the browser experience on both platforms. We note whether features are missing on mobile — some sites restrict pre-buy options or account settings to desktop.
Load times, game stability, and navigation are assessed on 4G and WiFi connections. A site that works perfectly on broadband but buffers on mobile data loses points, because many players use bingo sites on the go.
Licensing Verification
We don’t take the licence logo in the footer at face value. For UK sites, we look up the operator’s licence number on the UK Gambling Commission’s public register at gamblingcommission.gov.uk. We check whether the licence is active, who the licence holder is, any conditions attached, and any published regulatory actions. For US and offshore sites, we verify the licensing jurisdiction and check for any published sanctions or player complaints.
We include licence numbers in our review tables and comparison pages so you can verify them yourself. For example, Mecca Bingo operates under UKGC licence 57924, Betfred under 39544, and PlayOJO under 39011.
What a Review Day Looks Like
A full site review takes between four and eight hours spread over several days. It starts with account creation, KYC verification, and an initial deposit. We play for at least two hours across different bingo rooms and time slots to get a proper feel for game variety, room activity, and chat host quality. That’s usually day one.
The next day is about everything around the bingo: slots, side games, the loyalty programme, customer support. We read the full terms and conditions — which can take an hour on its own, but that’s where you find the details that matter. Withdrawal limits, bonus expiry windows, restricted games, account closure policies. The stuff operators don’t put on the homepage.
Then we wait. Withdrawals need to clear, and we test every available method. We also revisit during evening peak hours to check whether the site slows down when it’s busy. Only after all of that do we write the review. This process is why we don’t review 50 sites a month. Doing it properly takes time, and rushing it would compromise the information you rely on.
Our Rating Scale
We use a scale where 5.0 is the highest possible score. In practice, most good sites fall between 3.5 and 4.5. Here’s what the numbers mean:
When and How We Update
Sites change. Bonuses get restructured, payment methods get added or removed, operators get acquired, and the UKGC issues new regulatory guidance. A review that was accurate in January might be misleading by June.
We re-test sites on a rolling basis, prioritising the most-visited review pages and any sites where readers report changes. At minimum, every featured site on our main bingo sites page gets a full check at least once per quarter. Individual data points — bonus amounts, wagering requirements, minimum deposits — get checked more frequently, because these change without warning.
When we update a review, we change the “Updated” date at the top of the page. If the rating changes, we note what changed and why. We don’t silently alter scores.
What Doesn’t Affect Our Ratings
How much commission we earn from a site has no influence on its score. Sites that advertise with us don’t get better ratings. A site’s popularity or brand recognition doesn’t automatically make it better. Personal relationships with operators don’t factor in.
We earn revenue when you click through to a site and create an account. That’s a conflict of interest, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise. What we can tell you is that the rating is based on testing, not on commercial relationships. A site paying us more doesn’t move it from 3.9 to 4.3. We’ve given low scores to sites we earn well from, and high scores to sites where we earn very little. Our advertiser disclosure explains the model in full.
Our editorial standards are documented on our editorial guidelines page. These exist to keep the commercial and editorial sides of the site separate.
Limitations
No rating system is perfect, and we’re upfront about ours:
Our ratings reflect our team’s testing and priorities, which might differ from yours. If community atmosphere matters more to you than withdrawal speed, you might weight things differently than we do.
Your experience at a site might vary from ours. Support quality can be inconsistent. Withdrawal times depend partly on your bank. A site might update its bonus terms the day after we publish a review.
We test from both UK and US-based accounts, but our most thorough testing covers the UK market. Players in other jurisdictions may have different experiences with the same operator, particularly around payment processing and bonus availability.
Use our ratings as a starting point, but always read the full review before choosing where to play. The “best” site depends entirely on what you’re looking for.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you get paid by the sites you review?
We earn a commission when you click through to a site and create an account. This funds our testing but doesn’t influence scores. Our advertiser disclosure explains the model in detail.
How often do you update reviews?
Featured sites on our main page get a full check at least quarterly. Data points like bonus amounts and wagering terms are checked more frequently. When something changes, we update the review and the date stamp.
Can I suggest a site for review?
Yes. Contact us with the site name and we’ll consider it. We prioritise UKGC-licensed sites that are relevant to UK bingo players.
Why doesn’t my favourite site have a review?
We can only review sites we’ve fully tested, and proper testing takes time. If a site isn’t listed, it may be in our queue or it may not meet our minimum criteria (valid UKGC licence, operational in the UK).
I disagree with a rating. What can I do?
Let us know. If you’ve had a different experience at a site we’ve reviewed, that feedback helps us improve. We don’t change ratings based on a single report, but consistent feedback from multiple players will prompt a re-test.
Do you only review UK sites?
No. Our primary focus is UK bingo sites with UKGC licences, but we also cover US bingo sites and other markets including Canada, New Zealand, and Europe. Our testing methodology is the same across markets, though the specific criteria (like licensing authorities) vary by jurisdiction.
All information is accurate as of May 2026. Our review process and scoring criteria may evolve as the industry changes and as we find ways to improve. 18+ only. If you’re concerned about your gambling, visit our responsible gambling guide or contact the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133.
